Week 6 Philadelphia Eagles vs New York Jets Picks
The Philadelphia Eagles vs New York Jets game seemed like it would be a lot more interesting before the season. However, with the unfortunate injury to quarterback Aaron Rodgers, this game has lost a lot of its allure. It’s no fault of the Eagles, who continue to be undefeated after a solid win last week against the Los Angeles Rams. The New York Jets, even with a loss as massive as Rodgers, still sit at a respectable 2-3 and are coming off a good win against the Denver Broncos last week. The week prior the Jets also played well against the Kansas City Chiefs and seem like they’re on the right track even without their starting quarterback. The Jets may not be as good as advertised before the year, but they still have some young stars that can flip any game on its head, which should have the Eagles on guard.
Week 6 Philadelphia Eagles vs New York Jets Picks
Breece Hall Is More Than a Difference-Maker
With the injury to Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wison has had to fill in his stead. Wilson has had some moments and plays that show how much talent he really has, but it hasn’t been very consistent. He has the talent to keep the Jets in a game like what happened against the Chiefs, but he’s largely struggled in other games with decision making which hinders the Jets passing game. Additionally, the Jets offensive line has also struggled protecting Zach Wilson, ranking in the top ten for sacks allowed this season. Some of that is on Wilson, but one thing the offensive line has shown they can do is open holes for their superstar running back.
Breece Hall finished the Broncos game with 22 carries for 177 yards and a 72-yard touchdown. Hall’s game-breaking ability largely comes from his speed and size to break tackles, make people miss, or flat-out run past people no matter the defensive angles. The offensive line hasn’t been superb in opening holes for Hall, but they are excellent and allow Hall to get to the second level multiple times a game. Currently, the Jets rank 11th in rushing yards per game, and it seems like if they can get Hall some open room for at least one 60+ yard run in the game they’re going to have a chance to win. Even with Jets offensive guard Alijah Vera Tucker being ruled out for the season, the Eagles are going to have to bring their usual physicality to contain Hall the best they can.

Don’t Forget About Garrett Wilson
Garrett Wilson has not necessarily had a bad season, but he has not had that monster game so far this season. A lot of that may come from the fact that they have Zach Wilson at quarterback, but the Eagles would be smart to show Garrett Wilson plenty of attention all day. The Eagles secondary has still been struggling this year despite a win last week.
Rams wide receiver finished the game with eight receptions and 118 yards in his first game back from injury, and could have had even more if it weren’t for a few errand throws or miscommunication with Stafford. The Jets will look to re-create that performance with Garrett Wilson and there’s nothing to suggest the Eagles will be able to stop it unless the defensive line prevents it themselves. While Zach Wilson may struggle, there’s also a chance he has one of his great games and if Garrett Wilson is constantly open it will only aid in that.
Eagles vs Jets Picks: Bottom Line
Eagles Win 26-16
The Jets aren’t looking as potentially scary as they once did, but with their young talent, they can keep this game even closer than predicted. The Eagles secondary is a problem that has not been fixed, even if they are going against a weaker Jets passing offense, they’re liable to struggle. The Jets defense has also not quite lived up to their billing fully but still has tons of playmakers on that side of the ball. The difference in this game is how well the Eagles defend the run. This season the Eagles give up the least rushing yards per game in the league and they should be able to contain Hall if not give him a rough day running the ball.
The Eagles could lose if they are caught sleeping here, but through Nick Sirianni’s time as head coach, the Eagles have a good track record of being able to beat teams they should beat, even if they must play an ugly game.
