Dylan Mulvaney Gives Tampons to People Who Need Them. Transphobes Are Mad

Transgender TikToker Dylan Mulvaney is firing back against anti-trans critics who bizarrely accused her of contributing to the tampon shortage.

In a video posted to TikTok on Thursday as part of her popular “Days of Girlhood” video diary, Mulvaney explained she was “so tired over sticking up for myself for something that was so pure intention,” referring to her carrying a tampon around in case someone else needs it.

Addressing “the women on Twitter who just really don’t like me,” Mulvaney said some of her haters had apparently complained to menstrual products manufacturer Tampax, which had sent her a few boxes of tampons to give away. Some conservatives were upset that Tampax would work with someone who doesn’t menstruate. Mulvaney clarified that she had never worked with Tampax in any capacity, had “never made one dollar” from tampons or other products, and that none of the tampons went to waste and had been given away as intended.

“The bigger problem,” Mulvaney went on, “is that you feel me carrying a tampon around is a threat to you and your womanhood. How is someone doing something nice so repulsive to you?”

This is far from the first time Mulvaney has had to deal with backlash from her video series. Right-wing politicians have singled out Mulvaney this year as an easy target for their culture war on “woke leftism” and “gender ideology.” With that notoriety has come trolling from TikTok randos and backlash against brands who sponsor her, all of which she has visibly done her best to weather during what is still her first year transitioning.

Stiff upper lips are all well and good, but getting relentless hate for doing something that turns cis men and boys into internet heroes is enough to discourage anyone. Towards the end of the video, Mulvaney gets real about how the vitriol and opposition for its own sake has worn her down.

“Here’s some more good news for you: I’m not enjoying my womanhood as much as I was,” Mulvaney sadly tells the camera. “So if that was your goal, then congrats. But I’m still a woman.”
