Chris Cooper is an American actor. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Adaptation. (2002). His roles also include the films Matewan, Lone Star, A Time to Kill, The Horse Whisperer, October Sky, American Beauty, The Patriot, The Bourne Identity, Seabiscuit, Silver City, Capote, Jarhead, Syriana, Breach, The Kingdom, New York, I Love You, Remember Me, The Town, The Muppets, The Company You Keep, August: Osage County, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Demolition, Live by Night, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Little Women, and Boston Strangler, and television’s Lonesome Dove and 11.22.63.

Chris is the son of Mary Ann (Walton) and Charles Sherwood Cooper, who was a U.S. Air Force doctor and rancher. He was raised in Kansas City, as well as partly on his family’s ranch west of Leavenworth, Kansas, and in Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Houston. He is married to actress Marianne Leone Cooper. They had a son, Jesse, who died from causes related to cerebral palsy. They set up the Jesse Cooper Foundation in memoriam.

Chris’s paternal grandfather was Clemmie S. Cooper (the son of James Dieten Monroe Cooper and Mary Ann Murphree). Clemmie was born in Texas. James was the son of Samuel Cooper and Elizabeth. Mary Ann was the daughter of George Dennis Murphree and Sarah Elizabeth Surratt.

Chris’s paternal grandmother was Clara Mae Jones (the daughter of Jackson David “Jack” Jones and Sarah Mae Etchison). Clara was born in Texas. Jackson was the son of James Robert Jones and Diana Elizibeth Furguson. Sarah was the daughter of William Renrick Etchison and Sarah Frances Germany.

Chris’s maternal grandfather was Jesse Lanier Walton (the son of James Thomas Derbin Walton and Fannie Pearl McMillan). Jesse was born in Texas. James was the son of James Lanier Walton and Mary Louise Petty. Fannie was the daughter of William Crawford McMillan and Martha Isabel/Isabelle Melton.

Chris’s maternal grandmother was Mary Ann Elizabeth Dumas (the daughter of Louis P. Dumas and Florence Emberson/Umberson). Mary Ann was born in Texas. Louis was the son of James Pinkney/Pinckney Dumas and Mary Ann/Anne Elizabeth Thompson. Florence was the daughter of Elijah Emberson and Susan E. Stewart.
